IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter*

Week 18 – August 26, 2015 updated

Congratulations to the six teams in the play-offs:

Division A - Team Buescher (#4 Seed)

Division B - Team Donlin (#3 Seed)

Division C - Team Leirey (#2 Seed)

Division D - Team Flynn (#1 Seed)

Wild Card - Team Schumacher (#5 Seed)

Wild Card - Team Zachritz (#6 Seed)

Wild Card Matches will be on August 28 on the front nine:

#3 Seed - DONLIN vs #6 Seed ZACHRITZ - August 28 - 11:09 a.m. & 11:18 a.m.

#4 Seed - BUESCHER vs #5 Seed SCHUMACHER - August 28 - 3:12 p.m. & 3:21 p.m.

A Division had Team Buescher move back into the lead as the #4 Seed and Division winner.  Team Zachritz moved down to the 6th seed.  Team Kiffmeyer and Team Anderson (defending champs) could not find the miracle this year.

B Division has Team Donlin as Division winner and #3 Seed.  Team Bramlage, Team Pfeiffer, and Team Freeman will have to try again next year.

C Division has Team Leirey as the Division winner and #2 Seed.   Team Schumacher held onto a play-off spot as the 5th seed.  Team Patmann came in close but 1 – 2 weeks short.  Team Harms will have to try again next year.

D Division has Team Flynn as Division winner and the #1 Seed.  Team Kientz, Team Halpin, and Team Breen will have to try again next year.

This past week we had 3 subs.  Subs this week were John Kaufhold, Melody Oswalt, and Larry Oliver.

Most under average at 5+ under average:  Ed Kiffmeyer shoots 43 (5.9 under average), Dave Gindele shoots 44 (5.7 under average), Ed Miller shoots 41 (6.1 under average), Jimmy Smith shoots 44 (6.8 under average), Dave Speath shoots 50 (8.1 under average), and Erich Kientz shoots 40 (6.3 under average).

Special mention goes to Toni Brewer getting a Birdie on Hole #12.  Way to go Toni.

Some unusual occurrences on the course this week:

Seems Joe Devereux was unaware that a wheel came off his pull cart.  He was not sure where this had happened but thinks it was somewhere near Hole #12.  Maybe the Eagle got it.

Then there is Jim Hill.  He looked like he was roughed up out on the course after beating Team Pfeiffer.  He was muddied up and pants were torn/ripped in the rear.  His story is he went into the woods to look for a ball and on his way out slipped and fell.  I think someone from Team Pfeiffer (probably Bill Clark) was in the woods and tripped him up.  Guess that is what happens when you look for your balls in unusual places.

Oh, and then Mr. Chris Kerns had a golf story.  It was so amazing I just can’t print it or repeat it.

-Team Anderson needs a count for who will be playing and those having dinner.  Treasurer Chuck Reckers needs Outing payment by September 2 (Note:  Chuck will not cash the checks until the day before the Outing).   Credits from the rain-out have been applied to the slips in the team pouches.

-Individual player due amounts are listed in the team pouches in the briefcase.  If paying for the games please check off which games you are paying for (skins, greenies, long putts).

-New this year will be separate Flights for Men & Women. Also separate Skins for Men & Women.  Greenies and Long Putt will remain combined.

-Get the word out to your subs/guest so we can get a count on how many will be playing and having dinner.  Subs/Guest can have a team or individual and Team Anderson will place them on a team.

League Scramble will on September 2.  Scramble committee is Mike Donlin and Jim Westcott.  Tee times will start at 3:03 p.m. thru 4:51 p.m. every 9 minutes.

Format this year is:   Four person teams that play 2 two-man scrambles. Under this method, there would be two scores posted on each hole for each four person team. Ideally, teams would have an A, B, C, and D player with the A and D player playing as one two man team and the B and C player playing as the other two man team. In the event that a player is missing and results in only three people on a team, one player would play for both players.

If the A player is missing, the B player would play one ball with the C player and one ball with the D player

If the B player is missing, the C player would play one ball with the A player and one ball with the D player

If the C player is missing, the D player would play one ball with the A player and one ball with the B player

If the D player is missing, the C player would play one ball with the A player and one ball with the B player

Team Formation

All participating players will be pooled based on average into an A, B, C, or D position. Since there could be players from losing teams in the playoffs who want to play in the scramble, we may have to make last minute adjustments to teams with later tee off times if some of the losing playoff teams either have too many players with low averages or too many players with high averages.  Therefore, please disclose that team formation is tentative and is subject to change so that players from losing playoff teams wanting to play in the scramble can be accommodated and the competitive balance for all teams can still be maintained.
