IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter*

Week 17 – August 19, 2015

One week left for the regular season.  August 26 is the final position round and most of the drama is behind us.

This past week saw some missed tee times.  There was an accident on the I-275 bridge which delayed several players and one whole team.   Several of the players were able to catch up with their teams, however one team was unable to and forfeited their complete match.  Sorry goes to Team Freeman and the other players for this unusual occurrence.

A Division had a big change with Team Buescher giving up the lead to Team Zachritz.  Team Zachritz jumps from 6th seed to 4th seed, while Team Buescher (where is Larry ‘86’ Bunkelman) falls from 3rd seed to 6th (only 7 points off the lead.   Team Kiffmeyer and Team Anderson both would need a giant miracle to happen for a Wildcard spot.

B Division has Team Donlin in the lead and has this locked up.  Team Bramlage, Team Pfeiffer, and Team Freeman are there for the fun.

C Division has Team Leirey still in the lead (dropped to 2nd seed) while no-one was watching as Team Schumacher (5th seed) moved within striking distance for division lead.  Team Patmann has not thrown in the towel yet but would need a big miracle for a wild card spot.  Team Harms is in it for the fun.

D Division has Team Flynn moving up to the 1st seed position and a total run-a-way for division and possibly league.  Team Kientz, Team Halpin, and Team Harms are here for the fun.

Current seeding (with only position round left):

#1 Seed – Team Flynn, #2 Seed – Team Leirey, #3 Seed – Team Donlin, #4 Seed - Team Zachritz, #5 Seed – Team Schumacher, #6 Seed – Team Buescher.

This past week we had 2 subs.  Subs this week were Larry Oliver and David Howell.

Good rounds this week were:  Front:  Jay Ackerman – 37 and Mark Caporale – 39.

Most under average at 5+ under average:  Mike Finn shoots 43 (5.7 under average) and Ron Michael shoots 48 (5.1 under average).

-Individual player due amounts are listed in the team pouches in the briefcase.  If paying for the games please check off which games you are paying for (skins, greenies, long putts).

-New this year will be separate Flights for Men & Women. Also separate Skins for Men & Women.  Greenies and Long Putt will remain combined.

-Get the word out to your subs/guest so we can get a count on how many will be playing and having dinner.  Subs/Guest can have a team or individual and Team Anderson will place them on a team.

League Scramble will on September 2.  Scramble committee is Mike Donlin and Jim Westcott.  Tee times will start at 2:54 p.m. thru 4:51 p.m. every 9 minutes.

Format this year is:   Four person teams that play 2 two-man scrambles. Under this method, there would be two scores posted on each hole for each four person team. Ideally, teams would have an A, B, C, and D player with the A and D player playing as one two man team and the B and C player playing as the other two man team. In the event that a player is missing and results in only three people on a team, one player would play for both players.

If the A player is missing, the B player would play one ball with the C player and one ball with the D player

If the B player is missing, the C player would play one ball with the A player and one ball with the D player

If the C player is missing, the D player would play one ball with the A player and one ball with the B player

If the D player is missing, the C player would play one ball with the A player and one ball with the B player

Team Formation

All participating players will be pooled based on average into an A, B, C, or D position. Since there could be players from losing teams in the playoffs who want to play in the scramble, we may have to make last minute adjustments to teams with later tee off times if some of the losing playoff teams either have too many players with low averages or too many players with high averages.  Therefore, please disclose that team formation is tentative and is subject to change so that players from losing playoff teams wanting to play in the scramble can be accommodated and the competitive balance for all teams can still be maintained.

For those on Facebook:  Request to be a member of the IRS Golf League Facebook page.  This is a closed group that is open to all league members, subs, and potential subs.  Search for IRS Golf League California Golf Course and request to be added as a member.  This should be a good area to get information and look for a sub when needed.

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Skins on the back nine did not pay out due to not all teams completing the last few holes.  Credit will be given to those who were in the back nine skins.  Greenies were still paid out on the back nine since all teams completed at least 6 holes.

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies; and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt ($5.00 for all).  Place a check mark for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.
