IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 15 – August 1, 2018

Dodged the rain this week and so far we have no rain-outs.  First week of inner Division play and looks like some changes in several divisions.  Things are tightening up for a chance at a seeded position and the quest for the trophy.

Subs this week were:  Kelly Johnson (Team Bramlage), new Sub Stephen Lipps (Team Bramlage), Jim Conrady (Team Leirey), Jeff Barnhorst (Team Schumacher), Jeff Witt (Team Buescher) and Bob Kendrach (Team Buescher).  Thanks for being there.

We had 2 no shows this past week.  Remember if having difficulty finding a sub let the secretary know so he can help find someone to sub.

Division Standings:

Division A:  This division looked like a position round with Team Anderson moving up to 1st and #4 Seed as they defeated Defending League Champs Team Bramlage (18.5 points out).  Team Kientz and Team Leirey match had Team Leirey catching up some ground (75 points out of 1st).  Next week’s matches between Team Bramlage vs Team Leirey and Team Anderson vs Team Kientz could result in big changes here.

Division B:  Team Slye with a big loss still held on to #2 Seed by 8.5 points as Team Kiffmeyer (73 points out) defeated them and Team Vaughn closed the gap (63 points out of 1st) by defeating Team Harms.  Team Harms has the top of the upside-down list locked at this time.  (Point separation remained the same - 1st to 4th 149.5 points) Next week’s rounds here look like a position round as Team Slye vs Team Vaughn and Team Kiffmeyer vs Team Harms.  Could see some big changes here.

Division C:  Team Flynn with a mild loss to Team Pfeiffer remained the #1 Seed.  Team Halpin with a big win moved up to 2nd place, moved into #6 Seed, and closed in on Team Flynn as they sent Team Schumacher to last place in the division.  Team Pfeiffer moved up to 3rd and still has time to make a run for a seeded position.  Next week’s matches here look like a position round as Team Flynn vs. Team Halpin and Team Pfeiffer vs Team Schumacher.  (Secretary note to Team Flynn – Team Halpin needs 87 points to knock you out of 1st place next week.)  See status of the Almighty Fork for the status of Team Schumacher.

Division D:  This past week looked like a position round here and there were some big changes.  Team Breen moved into 1st and #3 Seed with a win over Team Freeman.  Team Freeman drops to 2nd and #5 Seed but only 10.5 points out.  Team Patmann sent Team Buescher to the bottom and out of seeding.  Point spread here is close as 57.5 points separate 1st to 4th.  Next week’s matches could see some big changes here as Team Breen vs Team Buescher and Team Freeman vs Team Patmann.

Note:  Only 270 points remain up for grabs.

Status of the Almighty Fork:

Okay, the Mother Forker last week stated that the winner of the Halpin vs Schumacher match would probably not get Forked, which in this case was Team Halpin.  Leaves the Fork for Team Schumacher.  Team Schumacher tried to avoid this by bringing in a ringer but to no avail.  (Secretary note:  This is the latest that Team Schumacher has made it without being Forked by the secretary.  Team Kientz has one more week before the Fork may find them, and Team Kiffmeyer saved themselves this week but are still on warning.

Week 15 Forked ψ:  Team Schumacher.

Week 12 Forked ψ:  Team Leirey, Team Pfeiffer, Team Patmann.

Week 10 Forked ψ:  Team Harms, Team Vaughn.

Heard in the Clubhouse:

Mr. Tom Nienaber unable to read the newsletter on-line.  (I think he still uses a crank phone.)  He should read this one as he finally won a long putt.

Mrs. Kelly Johnson not happy with making the most over on the sandbagger list.  Guess she made up for it this week by shooting under her average, but her opponent Brain Anderson shot even more under his average.

Dick Flynn looking to next week and finally getting his chance to compete against the secretary.  Two team captains will slug it out on August 8.  I definitely plan to be there as I don’t want to miss this one, and we may need a referee for this match.

And something I saw on-line and reminds me of when I went into the military why I joined the Air Force.

DoD was conducting an All Service briefing and the leader posed the question:

“What would you do if you found a scorpion in your tent?”

A Sailor said, “I’d step on it.”

A Soldier said, “I’d squash it with my boot.”

A Marine said, “I’d catch it, break the stinger off, and eat it.”

An Airman said, “I’d call room service and find out why there’s a tent in my room!”

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt.  Place a check mark or X for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out, notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.

Newsletter by:

League Secretary Charlie Halpin

Fine Print:  Mr. Bill you are slowly closing in on the top of the $$ list, however your team is Forked, and you can’t do nothing to undo it.  Once you cook the meat you can’t put it back in the fridge and make it raw again.  Done is Done.   Or were you just prodded and jumped off the heat.  Any complaints on this need to be sent in triplicate to the complaint committee.  (new rule added to complaint committee procedures:  nothing can be resolved prior to September 8.  And if you are looking for some stats here they are:  only 50% of the teams won this week.  More than 50% of the players won this week (2 tied). Here is another stat:  A and B divisions had 21 get in skins on front nine, while C and D division only had 10 in skins on the back nine.
