IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter
Week 14 – July 24, 2024
It is getting to be normal that we had another week that we were lucky to miss a rainout. Thoughts are that one of the Seeded teams must be doing a rain dance. Let’s hope they keep failing on their rain dance.
Congratulations to Kevin Bachmann on shooting one under par 34 on the back nine from the Blue Tees.
The subs playing this week: Mike Schwarberg (R) (Team Kientz), Bill Scott (Team Halpin/Scott), Brandon Arkle (Team Harms), Don Tobler (Team Brian Anderson), Gayle Grueninger (Team Bill Anderson), Bruce Hemmelgarn (R) (Team Buescher), Terry Boland (Team Bachmann), and Dave Martin (R) (Team Flynn).
Next week starts inner Division play with only 4 regular play weeks left. Forked teams seem to be taking a toll on the Seeded teams this past week. Could be changes coming with just 360 points left up for grabs.
I got with Micah this week to set up the Wild-Card Play-Off, Semi-Finals, Finals, and Scramble tee times.
- Wild Card Play-Off Tee Times: August 23rd – 2:30, 2:39, 2:48, & 2:57 - front nine.
- Semi-Finals Tee Times: August 28th – 12:06, 12:15, 12:24, & 12:33 – front nine.
- Finals Tee Times: August 28th – 3:06 & 3:15 – back nine.
- Scramble Tee Times: August 28th – 2:39 every 9 minutes through 4:36 – front nine
For Teams with a hope of playing in the Wild-Card Play-Offs and Semi-Finals/Finals there is currently only one open sub qualified to play according to League Rules Article XIX. “To be able to play for any team in the play-offs, a sub must have played 3 official rounds on both the front nine and the back nine during the current season. Restricted subs are always allowed to play in the play-offs. Play-Off teams are limited to only one sub during play-off games. Teams with a restricted sub can still use another sub.” A separate list will be sent to the Team Captains on sub eligibility.
This week Team Vaughn played vs the vacant team and came out on the short end. Next week Team Ellsworth will compare scores vs either team 4, or 8.
Heard Around, Happened Around, or Just Plain Made Up Info from Around the Clubhouse: The League secretary disavows any knowledge of erroneous or false information in this section of the newsletter. With the noise in the clubhouse and my hearing deficiency who knows for sure what is being said. If there is something you wish to complain about see the gripe committee head: Mr. Bill Zachritz. He will take any issues to the men’s room where he will discuss it with the Man-in-the-Mirror. Please do not anticipate any resolution soon or in the future.
- Match between Team Kiffmeyer and Team Buescher saw Birdies on 4 consecutive holes (#2, #3, #4, and #5.)(5 Birdies total). Per Ed that might be a first for our League. To top that there was a total of 19 Birdies this week.
- Jack Diesel in awe as he shot his lowest game ever.
- Super Sandbagger DB shooting way under his average again, he found his game.
- Team Kientz comment “we are not happy” after getting smoked by the very last place team.
- Some one getting riled with the kid at the counter for not giving the discount rate for the early nine that he does. Since this is the only course that I know of that does that, let’s be nice and not have an attitude towards the course since it could always be stopped due to temper tantrums. Let’s not blow it for the league. Any issues with the course should be brought to the attention of our League Officers.
Question for the Weak/Thoughts to Ponder for the Weak
- Why is The Fine Print almost unreadable? Answer it correctly for a prize of nothing.
Answer on the page after the last page. Only one person got the answer to the question right last week. Good for one broken tee.

Status of the Almighty Fork:
Again, the Warning went out and looking at team performance there were a couple of teams Forked. Team Ellsworth and Team Harms have been Forked this week. This leaves only seven teams possible for the six seeded positions and the Fork is dulled out and put away for the rest of the year. The Fork is totally discretionary at the secretary’s whims, team performance, and looking at possibility of teams making the playoffs. Once Forked there is no un-forking.
Forked Teams:
Team Brian Anderson – Week 12
Team Flynn – Week 12
Team Bachmann – Week 13
Team Crouch – Week 13
Team Broadus – Week 13
Team Halpin/Scott – Week 13
Team Ellsworth – Week 14
Team Harms – Week 14
