IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 14 – July 29, 2020

Condolences go out to Frank and Mary Jo Leirey on the loss of Don Potter (Mary Jo’s father).  Don was one of the nicest persons to talk to and play golf with.  He will be dearly missed.

Missing from the course has been League President Tom Schumacher.  He recently had hand surgery and will be out of action for the rest of the season.  Here is hoping he heals fast and gets back on the course soon.

League Outing is scheduled for September 11.  This year due to social distancing AJ Jolly Golf Course will give us tee times starting at 7 a.m.  Golf, cart, lunch, and beverages will be $67; golf cart, lunch, beverages, and dinner will be $82.  Plans are to have skin games and greenies (no long putt), Skins - $5 and Greenies - $3 (greenies will be hit the green and notate it on scorecard and name will be drawn for the winner).  No other on course games.  Flight winners and Skins/Greenie winners will be paid by check in the mail.  Dinner will be same as last year (pork chops/chicken breast, sides, and dessert.  An E-mail was sent to the team captains to see who on their team is playing and/or having dinner with a suspense of August 7.  More information will be sent out in a follow-up e-mail after we have a good count.

Every week I will post this about carts and fees.

Green fees and cart fees are still being paid by the League Treasurer Chuck Reckers.  For those okay with riding 2 in a cart with teammates that is now acceptable and preferred.   For those who said they will walk but wish to change to walk front and ride back or ride both sides, you need to let the League Treasurer Chuck Reckers know by Tuesdays 6 p.m. so he can update his records and notify the course on number of carts we will need.  Also, if you are having a sub that is different on walk or ride you need to let Chuck know about that.  If a player wants to commit to ride the back or both sides Chuck will update his records and collect the cart fees as part of the second installment in late July.  Reminder that no changing your mind at the course.

Subs this past week:  Mike Schwarberg (Team Kientz), Brian Taylor (Team Buescher), Troy Powell (Team Bachmann), and Jeff Barnhorst (Team Schumacher).  Thanks for being there.

Division Standings:

A Division:  Team Bramlage jumps to 1st place as Team Schumacher drops to 2nd place.  Team Kiffmeyer moves into 3rd as Team Anderson drops to 4th.    Note:  Point spread between 1st and 4th closes to just 43.5 points.

B Division:  Team Flynn jumps back to 1st place as Team Halpin drops to 2nd place.    Team Buescher remains in 3rd and Team Leirey in 4th but no longer at the bottom of the points list.  and still holding the top of the upside down list.  Note:  Point spread here dropped to 149.5 points separating 1st to 4th.

C Division:   Team Kientz held their position and takes over as the #1 Seed.  Team Breen is in 2nd followed by Team Zachritz in 3rd and Team Harms brings in 4th and takes over the top of the upside down points list.   Note:  Point spread here increased to 175.0  separating 1st to 4th.  See the Almighty Fork.

D Division:  Team Bachmann remains in 1st with Team Pfeiffer now 18.5 points out in 2nd place.  Team Vaughn brings in 3rd and now is 58 points out.  Team Sue&Sherrill comes in 4th and now are 118 points out.

Seeding:

Again, the season did not end yesterday, but if it ends tomorrow, Seeding will look like this:

Number 1 Seed – Team Kientz

Number 2 Seed – Team Flynn

Number 3 Seed – Team Bramlage

Number 4 Seed – Team Bachmann

Number 5 Seed – Team Flynn

Number 6 Seed – Team Schumacher

The Secretary’s rain dances did not work this week and Team Halpin got knocked out of Seeding along with Team Anderson getting knocked out.  Jumping to #1 was Team Kientz and back on the list is Team Bramlage as #3 Seed.  Team Schumacher dropped from 3rd to 6th Seed.  Team Bachmann held 4th Seed and Team Flynn jumped to #2 Seed.   Point spread between #2 Seed and #4 Seed is only 5.5 points.

With only 4 regular weeks left (360 points available) and all inner division play there will undoubtedly be some big changes to the Seeding.

The Almighty Fork:

With only inner division play left the Fork has made it to another Team.  Forked in Week 14 is Team Harms.   Three teams are on the griddle and could get Forked next week.  Warning to Team Sue&Sherrill, Team Buescher, and Team Zachritz.

Week 12 – Team Leirey

Week 14 – Team Harms

Thoughts to Ponder for the Weak:

Are eyebrows considered facial hair?
At a movie theater which arm rest is yours?
Do vegetarians eat animal crackers?
Why are there no 'B' batteries?
When does it stop being partly cloudy and start being partly sunny?
If a kid refuses to sleep during nap time, are they guilty of resisting a rest?
If you are bald, what hair color do they put on your driver's license?
If God sneezes, what should you say?
Is there a time limit on fortune cookie predictions?
If vampires can't see their reflections, why is their hair always so neat?
Since bread is square, then why is sandwich meat round?
Do they have the word "dictionary" in the dictionary?
Why is it that everyone driving faster than you is considered an idiot and everyone driving slower than you is a moron?
Can you daydream at night?
Why do they call the little candy bars "fun sizes". Wouldn't it be more fun to eat a big one?
If glassblowers inhale do they get a pane in the stomach?
Is a pessimist's blood type B-negative?
Why is it that when we "skate on thin ice", we can "get in hot water"?
If money doesn't grow on trees then why do banks have branches?
If pro and con are opposites, wouldn't the opposite of progress be congress?
