IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 14 – July 27, 2016

Another hot day on the course.  Not that many good rounds this week and not too many Birdies.  Must have been the heat.  For anyone thinking of moving to Florida, report from Larry Bunkelman is it was 110 degrees down there.  So we had cool weather this week.

California Golf Course is still taking sign-ups for their 2016 League Championship on August 21st at 1:30 p.m.  The format will be a 4 Person Scramble and the cost will be $200 per Team ($50/Player).  Price includes Golf and Cart, Dinner, and beverages.  Please sign up the golf shop.   This can be any 4 players from the league making up a team.

This week we had 16 subs:  Dan Varndell & Mike Schwarberg (Team Kientz), Greg Arkle & Shari Anderson (Team Harms), Larry Oliver (Team Kiffmeyer), Carol Goldstone (Team Freeman), Bob Kendrach (Team Buescher), Steve Ruehl (Team Bramlage), Ray Woods (Team Patmann), Bonnie Harrison, Terry Buelow & Melody Oswalt (Team Leirey),  Dave Vincent (Team Breen), Chet Wiggins & Dave Martin (Team Flynn), and John Kaufhold (Team Pfeiffer).

Good rounds this week:

Front 9 – Larry Oliver – 38, Greg Arkle – 39; Back 9 – Ray Vaughn - 37.

Most Under Average (Sandbagger Award):  Dave Gindele (7.9 under average), Chuck Reckers (6.2 under average), Carol Goldstone (5.2 under average), Mike Sullivan (5.0 under average).

Most Over Average (Hope to be a Sandbagger Some Day Award):  Sherrill Swann (13.8 over average), Greg Linfert (9.0 over average), George Baker (8.3 over average), Eddie Gregory (5.8 over average), Chet Wiggins (5.5 over average), and I didn’t want my name on here so I was only 4.9 over average.

Gift match of the weak:  Bill Zachritz verses Charlie Halpin: Charlie managed to out drive Bill on a couple of holes (believe it or not) except when Bill was in the other fairways.  Charlie could not hit the greens after that and could not putt, but managed to outright beat Bill on 1 hole, beat him with a stroke on another, and tie 2 holes.  Bill walked away with a big win crushing Team Halpin.  My comment on this is I have nothing nice to say about Bill except he is doing a wonderful job on taking complaints.

Division Rankings

A Division – Defending Champs Team Schumacher (moved up to 2nd seed) after suffering a mild loss and  still holds onto the lead in division.  Team Leirey still holds onto 2nd place and picked up a couple of points on the lead.  Team Flynn moved back up to 3rd after a mild win.  Team Donlin fell to 4th and are positioning themselves for the Scramble.  There was a request from one of Team Donlin’s players to Fork them.  The secretary does not Fork a team because they request it.  The Fork is the secretaries bias/prejudice decision.  With that said Team Donlin is hereby Forked.

B Division - Team Halpin (fell to 3rd seed) holds 1st place after suffering a humiliating loss.  Team Kiffmeyer with a good win is moving closer but still has a long way to go.  Team Buescher still holds 3rd and has finally earned the Fork.  Team Harms comes in 4th and hope to enjoy the Scramble.

C Division - Team Zachritz (1st seed) still holds the lead for division and league and broke the 800 point barrier.  Team Kientz (5th seed) with a win still lost ground on 1st place.  Team Bramlage (6th seed) with a win lost a little ground but is calculating holding a seed position.  Team Freeman brings in 4th is another team hoping to enjoy the Scramble.

D Division – Team Patmann (4th seed) suffered another loss but still holds their division lead.  Team Anderson (the unmatched shirts) picked up another win and are moving closer to the lead.  Team Breen is hanging back and are still within reach of division title.  Team Pfeiffer still holds firm to the top of the upside down list.

Seeding:  (1) Team Zachritz, (2) Team Schumacher, (3) Team Halpin, (4) Team Patmann, (5) Team Kientz, (6) Team Bramlage.  With only 4 weeks of play before the play-offs, all inner division, the competition is heating up with no top division positions safe at this time.

Status of the almighty Fork:  Team Anderson – week 5; Team Pfeiffer – week 7; Team Freeman – week 9; Team Flynn – week 13; Team Harms – week 13: Team Donlin – week 14; Team Buescher – week 14.  Close to receiving the Fork: Team Kiffmeyer & Team Breen.

Heard around the clubhouse:

Heard from Team Anderson something about failed leadership and a late run for division lead.  Also, Team Anderson recruited me to play with them in the Course Championship on August 21.  Wow I feel privileged.

Then there was talk that Team Kientz was not in it for the league title but only playing for the skins/greenie money.  Maybe that is what Team Donlin is doing too, as evidenced by this week’s money winners.

Our informant (Chris Kerns) was saying something about ESPN being at the match next week between Team Zachritz and Team Kientz (the battle for Division lead).  Just hope our league photographer gets good pictures of Mr. Bill Z. hitting the trees.

Not for sure what Jim Hill’s problem was but it had something to do with his shaft going one way and his balls going in a different direction.  I thinks he needs therapy.

Words of Whizdumb from Mr. Feldman:

Nine Important Facts To Remember As We Grow Older

·         #9 - Death is the number 1 killer in the world.

·         #8 - Life is sexually transmitted.

·         #7 - Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.

·         #6 - Men have 2 motivations: hunger and hanky panky, and they can't tell them apart.  If you see a gleam in his eyes, make him a sandwich.

·         #5 - Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day.  Teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks, months, maybe years.

·         #4 - Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing.

·         #3 - All of us could take a lesson from the weather.  It pays no attention to criticism.

·         #2 - In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird.  Now the world is weird, and people take Prozac to make it normal.

·         #1 - Life is like a jar of jalapeno peppers.  What you do today may be a burning issue tomorrow.

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt.  For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names.  $5.00 entry fee for all games ($3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt).  Place a check mark for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.
