IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 13 – July 18, 2018

Another big week as two players got Eagles.  Congratulations to Bill Zachritz and Erich Kientz on getting Eagles on Hole #2.

Welcome back to Mike Breen after repair of his right knee.

Another reminder that it is best to be on the tee box prior to your tee time.  There are leagues after ours so play ready golf as those playing later can get their rounds in.

There are still 2 players that are outstanding on 2nd half green fees/dues.  Treasurer Chuck Reckers thanks all those that are paid.

Subs this week were:  Mary Jo Leirey (Team Leirey), Don Bazsika (Team Slye), Dave Martin (Team Flynn), new sub Mick McMullen (Team Flynn), Greg Arkle (Team Harms), and Shari Anderson (Team Harms).  Thanks for being there.

Division Standings:

Division A:  Defending League Champs Team Bramlage (#4 Seed) still holds the top with Team Anderson jumping back to 2nd place.  Team Kientz drops to 3rd with Team Leirey bringing in the rear but able to pick up some ground.  (1st to 4th place closed to 82.5 points)

Division B:  Team Slye holds the top and with a good win moved into #2 Seed.  Team Vaughn still holds 2nd place followed by Team Kiffmeyer and Team Harms.  (1st to 4th separation 120 points)

Division C:  Team Flynn (#1 Seed) suffered a loss but held their lead.  Team Schumacher dropped to 3rd and out of seeding as Team Halpin with a loss moved to 2nd place and 9 points out of seed.  Team Pfeiffer brings in the bottom but is starting to make a comeback.  (1st to 4th decreased to 114.5 points)

Division D:  Team Freeman holds the top but dropped to #3 Seed.  Team Breen moved up to 2nd place and #5 Seed as Team Buescher dropped to 3rd and #6 Seed.  Team Patmann brings in the bottom but is trying to make a comeback.   (1st to 4th decreased to 72 points)

Status of the Almighty Fork:

Not for sure what happened here as all the Forked teams brought in big wins this week.  Temporarily the Fork is on hold as the secretary takes a look at the statistics and probabilities, but next week one of two teams for sure will be Forked.  Question is: will it be Team Schumacher?? or Team Kiffmeyer??

Week 12 Forked:  Team Leirey, Team Pfeiffer, Team Patmann.

Week 10 Forked:  Team Harms, Team Vaughn.

Sandbaggers of the Weak: (5.0 greater or less):

Most Under Average:

Tom Nienaber shoots a 41 (8.0 under average). (Wow!!!)

Don Bazsika shoots a 55 (7.7 under average).  (Wow!!!)

Jay Broadus shoots a 40 (6.9 under average). (2nd week in a row)

Steve Ruehl shoots a 36 (5.3 under average). (Opposite list last week)

Rick Taylor shoots a 47 (5.2 under average).

Most Over Average:

Farlon Smith shoots a 51 (8.9 over average).

Mike Sullivan shoots a 61 (7.8 over average).

Heard in the Clubhouse:

From an anonymous source (I won’t mention Pat Breen’s name) the following comment on the latest Eagles:

“An Eagle is an Eagle no matter how small.”

John Freeman ecstatic about shooting a 43 (4.7 under his average and not making the sandbagger list) and beating Mark Halpin’s 39.

Repeating this from the last newsletter:

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt.  Place a check mark or X for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out, notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.

Newsletter by:

League Secretary Charlie Halpin

Fine Print:  Again, special thanks to Mr. Bill Z. for helping straighten out the briefcase this week as it was a total mess again.  Again, I tried to talk to the complaint committee but his head was still in the cloud about his Eagle.  Sorry I will not put your name in for Secretary as I think Mr. Bill Clark wants it more than you.  The rest has been censored and removed so Mr. Z has nothing further to read.
