IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 13 – July 22, 2015

What a beautiful day on the course.  Weather was fantastic for a change and there were a lot of Birdies this week along with a lot of skins.  Competition for the top 6 seed positions is really heating up with the division leaders vying for the top two seeds.

A Division still has Team Buescher in the lead (winning but dropping to #3 Seed).  Team Anderson in second place still holds the 5th Seed.  Team Zachritz took another whooping and moved to the bottom of Division with Team Kiffmeyer winning and moving up into contention.

B Division has Team Donlin sitting comfortably in the lead (#4 Seed).  Team Pfeiffer lost ground here but still brings in second place with a chance for a wild card spot.  Team Bramlage and Team Freeman both had good wins but are still so ever far behind.

C Division has Team Leirey in the lead and barely holding on to the #1 seed position.  Team Patmann took a great fall and Team Schumacher moved up and into #6 seed position.  Team Harms holds the bottom here but it is still a close race.

D Division has Team Flynn with a comfortable lead and with a big win has this division pretty much sewed up and takes the #2 Seed position.  Team Kientz and Team Halpin both with losses are slowly watching their season pass them by.  Both still have a chance for a wild card, but have a lot of work to do.  Team Breen has pretty much assured they will be the same team number next year and have a good lock on the top of the upside down list.

Current seeding:

#1 Seed – Team Leirey, #2 Seed – Team Flynn, #3 Seed – Team Buescher, #4 Seed Team Donlin, #5 Seed – Team Anderson, #6 Seed – Team Schumacher.

This past week we had 8 subs.  Subs this week were Dave Randle, John Kaufhold, Jeff Barnhorst, Carol Goldstone, Ray Woods, Don Bazsika, and new subs Joe Tiller and Alex Mattingly.

Good rounds this week were:  Front – Jim Westcott – 37, Joe Tiller – 37, Jeff Witt – 38, and Jim Grassinger – 39.

Most under average at 5+ under average:  Rick Taylor shoots 47 (6.3 under average).

There were 19 Birdies this week, 10 on the front and 9 on the back.   There was a record of 8 skins on the back nine, 3 were pars and 1 was a boogie.

Team Anderson requested Team Halpin captain have the league secretary Fork Team Halpin with the loss to Team Anderson.  Team Captain Halpin could not convince the League Secretary to Fork any more teams.  So as it stands Team Halpin is not Forked.  I think it also had something to do with Team Zachritz getting the manure pitch fork.  Team Anderson also had a can of Whoop Ass that was opened by Team Halpin after the match.  Should have opened it before the match.

And this coming from President Tom Schumacher (third installment):

WHAT ARE WE NOT KNOWN FOR!!!

Most US States have at least one claim to fame.  For example,
90% of bourbon produced in the US comes from Kentucky.  In addition, each of the
50 states has something about it that is "lesser-known".  In two prior
Newsletters we showed, in each Newsletter 10 states in alphabetical order.  Following are the next 10 states:

Massachusetts -- Biggest lottery payouts (77 cents on the dollar).
Michigan -- Most lighthouses (92).
Minnesota -- Highest voter turnout (76%) in the last presidential election.
Mississippi -- Biggest tax refunds (34.8% of collections refunded).
Missouri -- First ice cream cone.
Montana -- Largest snowflake ever observed.
Nebraska -- Invented Kool-Aid.
Nevada -- Largest goldmine in the U.S.
New Hampshire -- Most pizzerias per capita (3.9 per 10,000 people).
New Jersey -- More diners than any other state.

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies; and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt ($5.00 for all).  Place a check mark for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.
