IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

July 16, 2014

It was perfect weather for golf this week.  Lot of good rounds and some okay rounds.

Treasurer Chuck Reckers reports that all players are paid up for the year.  Chuck says thanks to all.

There were no changes to division leaders this week.  Team Zachritz maintained a slim lead in A Division with Team Donlin and Team C.Halpin closing in on them.  Team Kiffmeyer stayed in the lead in B Division with Team Freeman & Team Schumacher moving up a little.  Team Bramlage increased their lead in C Division and took over league leading points.  Team Anderson (purple shirts) held their lead in D Division after suffering a big loss and has Team Leirey closing in on them.

Current Leaders:

A Division – Team Zachritz (3rd seed)

B Division – Team Kiffmeyer (4th seed)

C Division – Team Bramlage (1st seed)

D Division – Team Anderson (2nd seed)

Current Wildcards – Team Donlin (5th seed) & Team Leirey (6th seed)

Status of the Fork:  Team Schumacher (with one no-show) did manage to pull out a big win and move up one notch in their Division, but they remain Forked.  Team Freeman also pulled out a big win and closed in on Team Kiffmeyer with Team Breen falling to the bottom of B Division.  Seems like it is fitting to Fork Team Breen this week, with Team Kiffmeyer closing in on the Fork as soon as next week.  Team Harms again saved themselves from the fork with a good win, however Team Pfeiffer stumbled to the bottom of D Division and could get the Fork next week.  Team Kientz, well, what can I say, the Fork got them last week.  Team Patmann still firmly holds the top of the upside down list.

Summary of Teams Forked:  Team Schumacher (week 8), Team Patmann (week 10), Team Kientz (week 12), Team Breen (week 13).

Question I had at the clubhouse this week was:  Why did Mr. Kiffmeyer not cook his goose?  Some more questions:  Was it goose hunting season in Michigan?  And:  Do you need a license to hunt a goose if only using a golf club and ball?  Seems like Mr. Kiffmeyer got a bird (not birdie) on his second shot on a hole up in Michigan.  Hit the goose in the neck, but Ed would not have duck for dinner.  Last question is:  How did you mark that on the score card?

There were 4 subs this week.  Subs were John Lloyd, John Kaufhold, Jeff Witt, and Dave Vincent.  Thanks for being there.

"Thoughts of the Weak" (from League President Thomas G. Schumacher)

What can you find in Manila that you can't find in Tokyo???

I received one correct answer to this.  Correct answer is ANIMAL (rearrange the letters in Manila, you cannot do that with Tokyo).  Correct answer was submitted by Jay Ackerman.  Since Jay got this right his name will be submitted for candidate for League President.

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

The pot was short on cash this past week.  Please make sure you put in the correct amount for what games you are playing and mark off the correct blocks on the skins sheet.

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt.  Place a check mark for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams please bring markers in.
