IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 10 – June 20, 2018

Reminder that 2nd half green fees/dues are due by June 27.  Pouches will be in the briefcase to put remittance in.  Make checks payable to IRS Golf League.  Treasurer Chuck Reckers thanks those that paid this past week.

Subs this week were:  Jim Conrady (Team Leirey), Dan Varndell (Team Breen), Greg Arkle (Team Harms), and Jeff Barnhorst (Team Schumacher).  Thanks for being there.

There were 3 Eagles this past week.  Congratulations go to John Freeman – Eagle on #4, Jeff Elsbernd – Eagle on #14, and Kevin Bachmann – Eagle on #14.  This year has seen the most Eagles for our league in recent history, and all have been from the White tees.

Division Standings:

Division A:  There was no change is positions with Team Anderson still in the lead but dropping to #4 Seed, followed by Team Bramlage, Team Kientz, and Team Leirey.  (1st to 4th narrowed to 68.5 points.)

Division B:  There was no change in positions with Team Slye still in the lead and moving up to #3 Seed, followed by Team Kiffmeyer, Team Vaughn, and Team Harms.  See Status of the Almighty Fork.

Division C:  Big change here as Team Flynn moves up to 1st and top in league points and the #1 Seed.  Team Schumacher (now #5 Seed) falls to 2nd and is now the #5 Seed.  They are followed by Team Halpin moving to #6 Seed, and Team Pfeiffer (on a winning streak).  After Team Pfeiffer’s big win and Team Schumacher’s big loss only 120 points separate 1st to 4th.

Division D:  No change in positions here as Team Freeman (#2 Seed) is still holding 1st, followed by Team Buescher (fell out of Seed), Team Breen, and Team Patmann.  (Now 93 points separate 1st to 4th.)

Status of the Almighty Fork:

Seems like it is time to use the Fork.  Some folks were hoping that Team Halpin would get Forked first but after winning and moving up to 6th Seed they avoided the Fork.  However, after looking at this past week’s performance two teams are now being the first to be Forked.  Earning the Fork is Team Harms (bottom of the points list) and Team Vaughn (next to the bottom of the points list).

Week 10 Forked:  Team Harms, Team Vaughn.

Sandbaggers of the Weak: (5.0 greater or less):

Most Under Average:

Lori Johnson shoots a 48 (11.0 under average) (Wow!!!) (3 weeks in a row).

Chuck Reckers shoots a 40 (5.8 under average).

Dale Schaber shoots a 41 (5.7 under average).

Rafael Gonzalez shoots a 43 (5.7 under average).

Jim Fish shoots a 42 (5.0 under average).

Most Over Average:

Wayne Witt shoots a 55 (10.3 over average) (ouch).

Mike Donlin shoots a 48 (9.0 over average) (ouch).

Mark Halpin shoots a 49 (7.9 over average) (ouch).

Ron Michael shoots a 56 (6.0 over average) (2 weeks in a row).

Ray Vaughn shoots a 46 (5.6 over average) (ouch).

And from Mr. Kiffmeyer from Mr. Clark the following short story:

Poor Fred!!!

An Arizona Highway Patrol officer stops a Harley for traveling faster than the posted speed limit, so he asks the biker his name.

'Fred,' he replies.

'Fred what?' the officer asks.

'Just Fred,' the man responds.

The officer is in a good mood, thinks he might just give the biker a break, and write him out a warning instead of a ticket. The officer then presses him for the last name.

The man tells him that he used to have a last name but lost it.

The officer thinks that he has a nut case on his hands but plays along with it. 'Tell me, Fred, how did you lose your last name?'

The biker replies, 'It's a long story, so stay with me.' I was born Fred Johnson. I studied hard and got good grades. When I got older, I realized that I wanted to be a doctor. I went through college, medical school, internship, residency, and finally got my degree, so I was Fred Johnson, MD. After a while I got bored being a doctor, so I decided to go back to school. Dentistry was my dream! Got all the way through School, got my degree, so then I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS. Got bored doing dentistry, so I started fooling around with my assistant and she gave me VD, so now I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS, with VD.

Well, the ADA found out about the VD, so they took away my DDS. Then I was Fred Johnson, MD, with VD. Then the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Johnson with VD. Then the VD took away my Johnson, so now I am Just Fred.'

The officer walked away in tears, laughing.

Heard in the Clubhouse:

·         Get well to Mike Breen.  Down for a few weeks with a knee repair.

·         For the 2nd week in a row Team Kientz has tied score with their opponents.  Not sure if this has happened before.  At the rate that they are going seems like they are at a standstill.

·         Jim Hill received the Muscle Man Award Trophy with the remnants of his 9 iron.

·         Secretary with his baseball bat putter was able to beat Team Kiffmeyer without using it.

·         Sherrill Swann losing her 1st match of the year.  You need a week off.

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt.  Place a check mark or X for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out, notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.
