IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 10 – June 28, 2017

From the recap sheets it looks like 50% had a good round, plus half the teams did well.  For the other half next week should get here soon enough.

Treasurer Chuck Reckers reports that 52 regulars are current with league fees.  There are still 12 golfers outstanding.   For those that owe 2nd half fee is $148.50.  Pouches will be in the briefcase to put checks in (payable to IRS Golf League).  Chuck thanks those that are paid in full.  Questions concerning the fees please contact Chuck at email: cmjrecke@gmail.com.

This week we had 7 subs:  Mary Jo (the Ringer) Leirey (for Team Leirey), Carol Goldstone (for Team Patmann), Jack (in the trees) Snowden (for Team Halpin), Steve Ruehl (for Team Freeman), Kelly Johnson (for Team Vaughn), Matt McRoberts (for Team Buescher), Don Bazsika (for Team Anderson).  Thanks for being there. Special thanks to Steve Ruehl for last minute change to subbing for Team Freeman.

Good rounds this week were:

Front – Mark Slye – 35, Kevin Bachmann – 37, Boyd Marley – 38, Frank Leirey - 39.

Back – Ray Vaughn – 40, Steve Duddey - 40.

Match of the Weak:

No comment on this since I don’t want to talk about the awesome game I never had.  Thank you Mr. Ed Kiffmeyer for the suffering I put you through.

Sandbaggers of the Weak: (5.0 greater or less):

Most Under Average:

Sherrill Swann shoots 56 (9.0 under average), Dale (Long Putt) Goodwin shoots 45 (8.1 under average), Mike (Red Hot) Sullivan shoots 52 (7.0 under average), Jim Fish shoots 49 (6.9 under average), Eddie Gregory shoots 45 (6.4 under average), Jeff (Beaker) Elsbernd shoots 44 (5.0 under average).

Most Over Average:

Charlie (finally made the newsletter) Halpin shoots 53 (6.6 over average), Rick Taylor shoots 57 (5.8 over average).

Status of the Almighty Fork:

Week 6 - Team Schumacher.

Week 9 – Team Freeman, Team Patmann, Team Breen.

Division Standings:

o   Division A still has defending Champs Team Bramlage (#3 seed) holding the lead with Team Kiffmeyer closing in on them.  Team Schumacher (still struggling with the line-up and recap sheet) and Team Patmann are hanging in 3rd and 4th.  Only 111.5 points separate the teams.

o   Division B has Team Pfeiffer jumping into the lead and #4 seed.  Team Kientz (without Mr. Erich Kientz) fell to 2nd and out of seed.  Team Flynn still brings in 3rd with Team Buescher falling to the bottom.  Now 37.5 points separate the 4 teams and as predicted there will probably be a lot more juggling the lead here.

o   Division C has Team Harms making a run and taking the lead and #1 Seed.  Team Anderson (the Shirts) fell and dropped to #5 seed.  Team Vaughn picked up a little steam (with the help of sub Kelly Johnson) and could be making their run for the lead.  Team Freeman brings in 4th and gave up their spot at the top of the upside down league points list.

o   Division D has Team Halpin still holding their lead and #2 seed but losing ground.  Team Leirey (#6 seed) brings in 2nd and only 19.5 points out of lead.  Team Slye brings in 3rd and closing in on the lead also (61.5 out).   Team Breen comes in 4th and is becoming a spoiler to other teams.

Current Seeding:

1.     Team Harms

2.     Team Halpin

3.     Team Bramlage

4.     Team Pfeiffer

5.     Team Anderson

6.     Team Leirey

Position Round 2 (if no rain out) is July 12 and with the point spread there could be a lot of changes in the leads next week.

Position Round 2: (July 12 if no rain out).  (Divisions opposite from 1st position round.)  Again if no rain out next week tee times for July 12 position round will be:

Front Nine:  3:39 & 3:48 – Division B 3rd place vs. 4th place.

                   3:57 & 4:06 – Division B 1st place vs. 2nd place.

                   4:15 & 4:24 – Division D 3rd place vs. 4th place.

                   4:33 & 4:42 – Division D 1st place vs. 2nd place.

Back Nine:   3:39 & 3:48 – Division A 3rd place vs. 4th place.

                   3:57 & 4:06 – Division A 1st place vs. 2nd place.

                   4:15 & 4:24 – Division C 3rd place vs. 4th place.

                   4:33 & 4:42 – Division C 1st place vs. 2nd place

Who’s Hot/Who’s Not:

o   Hottest Teams:

o   Money Leader:  Mark (Sly Fox) Slye.

o   Hottest Individuals:

o   Win/Loss:  Jimmy Smith 9-1.

o   Points Avg:  Rafael Gonzalez 13.7, Jimmy Smith 13.6.

o   Birdie Leaders: Mark Slye – 7.

o   Mike Sullivan now on a 7 game winning streak and most improved average (down 3 each side).

o   Not Hot:  Sorry no comment here (didn’t want my name and Rick Taylor’s name here).

o   Most often sub:  Mary Jo (The Ringer) Leirey 4-3, Cindy Ellsworth 1-6, Steve Ruehl 3-3.

Heard in the Clubhouse:

Mrs. Mary Jo Leirey had a lot to say just can’t get myself to print any of it.  Mr. Frank Leirey was almost speechless.  Team Leirey did pull in a big win and I think Mary Jo was the ringer.

Question for the Weak/Thoughts to Ponder:

Last week there were some questions/thoughts to ponder that League President (Col) Tom Schumacher was hoping for the answers.  Mr. Ed Miller gave him a couple of answers but the rest will just have to go unanswered.  So with that said here are some more:

-Why do people say "heads up" when you should duck?

-Why does triangularly cut bread taste better than square bread?
-If one man says, "it was an uphill battle," and another says, "it went downhill from there," how could they both be having troubles?
-Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?
-Can you cry under water?
-If you blew a bubble in space, would it ever pop?
-Why do they put holes in crackers?
-What do people in China call their good plates?
-Why do they call him Donkey Kong if he is not a donkey?
-Do stuttering people stutter when they're thinking to themselves?
-If you put a chameleon in a room full of mirrors, what color would it turn?
-Why do we press the start button to turn off the computer?

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt.  Place a check mark for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.

IRS Golf League Secretary

Complaint Chairman Bill Z was not present this week so from what I can tell there were no complaints except for the ones that I didn’t know about.  Still hoping that Team Schu can maybe one day complete the recap correctly.  Maybe we can create a new position as Line-up/Recap Sheet Instructor (volunteers requested).
