IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 9 – June 21, 2017

Week nine completed, half season is over and the competition is getting on for the trophy.  Play between Division A vs. Division C and Division B vs. Division D is complete.  Next will be Division A vs. Division D and Division B vs. Division C.

Second half league fees are due by June 28th.  For those that owe 2nd half fee is $148.50.  Pouches will be in the briefcase to put checks in (payable to IRS Golf League).  Treasurer Chuck Reckers thanks those that are paid in full.  Questions concerning the fees please contact Chuck at email: cmjrecke@gmail.com.

This week we had 4 subs:  Mary Jo Leirey (for Team Leirey), Cindy Ellsworth (for Team Anderson), Steve Ruehl (for Team Bramlage), and new sub Carl Jahnke (for Team Freeman).  Thanks for being there.

Good rounds this week were:

Front – Mark Slye – 36, Jim Grassinger - 37.

Back – Mark Halpin – 39.

Match of the Weak:

This would have to be the match between Team Flynn and Team Slye, with a total of 5 Birdies and 22 Pars.  Jim Grassinger pulled in 2 Birdies, while Mark Slye pulled in 3 Birdies.  Best or most unusual had to be Mark Slye on #6, 1st shot into reservoir, takes a drop, and from 130 yards out sinks the shot in the hole for a Birdie as witnessed by Jim Grassinger.   This gets a big WOW!!!

Sandbaggers of the Weak: (5.0 greater or less):

Most Under Average:

Mike Sullivan shoots 53 (6.7 under average), Jim Grassinger shoots 37 (6.6 under average), Mark Halpin shoots 39 (6.5 under average), Lori Johnson shoots 48 (5.7 under average), Jim Fish shoots 52 (5.1 under average), Tom Mullett shoots 44 (5.0 under average).

Most Over Average:

Dale Schaber shoots 53 (6.7 over average), Mike Schwarberg shoots 58 (6.5 over average), Tom Marsh shoots 55 (6.2 over average), George Baker shoots 56 (5.9 over average), Rick Taylor shoots 58 (5.9 over average), Cecil Begley shoots 49 (5.4 over average), Garry Melish shoots 50 (5.1 over average), Wayne Witt shoots 50 (5.0 over average).

Status of the Almighty Fork:

Team Freeman was given one last chance and couldn’t do it and requested one more chance but the Fork has finally found them.  Team Patmann and Team Breen both could not dodge the Fork and are officially done.

Week 6 - Team Schumacher.

Week 9 – Team Freeman, Team Patmann, Team Breen.

Division Standings:

o   Division A has defending Champs Team Bramlage (#3 seed) still holding the lead but with Team Kiffmeyer moving up and starting their run.  Team Patmann fell to the bottom with Team Schumacher barely holding 3rd.  Only 104 points separate the teams.

o   Division B has Team Kientz (#4 seed) with a slight lead.  Team Buescher (this time with a loss) moved from 4th to 2nd.  Team Flynn held onto 3rd with Team Pfeiffer dropping to 4th.  A whooping 17 points separate the 4 teams and there will probably be a lot of juggling the lead here.

o   Division C has Team Anderson (the Shirts) holding their lead and gaining the #1 seed.  Team Harms (#5 seed) is still hot on their tail.  Team Vaughn fell back a little but is still in the hunt.  Team Freeman still holds their spot at the top of the upside down league points list.

o   Division D has Team Halpin still holding their lead but dropping from #1 seed to #2 seed.  Team Leirey (#6 seed) brings in 2nd and is starting to make their run along with 3rd place Team Slye.   Team Breen still brings in 2nd place on the upside down points list.

Current Seeding:

o   Points Avg:  Rafael Gonzalez 13.7, Jimmy Smith 13.5.

o   Birdie Leaders: Mark Slye – 5, Cecil Begley – 4, Jim Grassinger 4, Mark Halpin 4.

o   Mike Sullivan on a 6 game winning streak and most improved average (down 3 each side).

o   Not Hot:  Sorry no comment here.

o   Most often sub:  Cindy Ellsworth 1-6, Mary Jo Leirey 3-3, Steve Ruehl 3-2.

Heard in the Clubhouse:

Team Anderson (the Shirts – Blue) out doing a rain dance now that they are number 1 seed.  Team Halpin out dancing with them (number 2 seed).  No luck, with nine weeks left before play-offs I doubt there could be that many rain-outs.

Has anyone seen the league photographer – Mr. Erich Kientz – how are you?

Note to self….make notes……Charles in charge…………….

Question for the Weak/Thoughts to Ponder:

-At a movie theater which arm rest is yours?
-Why is there a disclaimer on the Allstate Auto Insurance commericals that says "Not available in all states"?
-If you dug a hole through the center of the earth, and jumped in, would you stay at the center because of gravity?
-How far east can you go before you're heading west?
-If, in a baseball game, the batter hits a ball splitting it right down the center with half the ball flying out of the park and the other half being caught, what is the final ruling?
-Why is it that everyone driving faster than you is considered an idiot and everyone driving slower than you is a moron?
-When does it stop being partly cloudy and start being partly sunny?
-Can you daydream at night?
-Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale?
-What does PU stand for (as in "PU, that stinks!")?
-Why do we put suits in a garment bag and put garments in a suitcase?
-Why does a round pizza come in a square box?
-What happens when you put a light-saber in water?
-Where do people in Hell tell other people to go?
-If there's an exception to every rule, is there an exception to that rule?

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt.  Place a check mark for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.
