IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 8 – June 14, 2017

A little bit of rain this week with some distant thunder but the weather cleared for some wild play.

Reminder from Treasurer Chuck Reckers that 2nd half league fees are due by June 28th.  For those that owe 2nd half fee is $148.50.  Pouches will be in the briefcase to put checks in (payable to IRS Golf League).

This week we had 6 subs:  Don Potter (for Team Freeman), Mary Jo Leirey (for Team Freeman), Dan Varndell (for Team Schumacher), Kelly Johnson (for Team Schumacher), Johnny Lloyd (for Team Kientz), and Matt McRoberts (for Team Buescher). Thanks for being there.

Good rounds this week were:

Front – Don Potter - 37, Mike Donlin – 38.

Back – Mark Slye – 39.

Match of the Weak:

Another 1st that I haven’t seen before is the match between Team Kiffmeyer versus Team Harms.  Jay Ackerman giving 5 vs. Tim Andrews (match is a tie), Dick Warren giving 4 vs. Dale Goodwin (Dale wins by 10 strokes), Ed Kiffmeyer giving 5 vs. Pat Harms (Pat wins by 2 strokes), and the big match was between Dave Gindele giving 8 vs. Mike Sullivan (Mike shoots his best round 15.3 under his average and wins by 25 strokes and takes all 18 points).  This match puts Team Harms into the hunt for Division lead and puts Team Kiffmeyer to the bottom of their Division and closing in on the Fork.

Sandbaggers of the Weak: (5.0 greater or less):

Most Under Average:

Mike Sullivan shoots 42 (15.3 under average), Dale Goodwin shoots 43 (6.9 under average). Patrick Buescher shoots 42 (6.6 under average), Dale Schaber shoots 46 (5.7 under average), and Mike Donlin shoots 38 (5.2 under average).

Most Over Average:

Lori Johnson shoots 68 (13.0 over average), Dave Gindele shoots 59 (11.2 over average), Jim Hill shoots 59 (9.1 over average), Farlon Smith shoots 53 (7.3 over average), Jeff Elsbernd shoots 54 (7.0 over average), Mark Halpin shoots 50 (6.5 over average), Dan Varndell shoots 48 (5.7 over average), Jay Broadus shoots 51 (5.4 over average), and Kevin Bachmann shoots 43 (5.3 over average).

Status of the Almighty Fork:

Week 6 - Team Schumacher.

On the Fork warning list is Team Freeman (one last chance) & Team Breen (one last chance). Team Patmann (saved themselves this week and are off the warning list), Team Kiffmeyer added themselves to the warning list.

Division Standings:

o   Division A has defending Champs Team Bramlage still in the lead with Team Patmann closing in on them. Team Schumacher remains unchanged and Team Kiffmeyer fell to the bottom.

o   Division B has Team Kientz moving into the lead after a small loss.  Team Pfeiffer moved up, Team Flynn dropped from 1st to 3rd, and Team Buescher after a small win dropped to the bottom.  Only 13.5 points separate the four teams.

o   Division C has Team Anderson still in the lead with Team Harms closing in and Team Vaughn not too far behind.  Team Freeman brings in the top of the upside down league points list.

o   Division D has Team Halpin running away with the lead (top of the points list) with Team Leirey trying to make a run for it.  Team Slye is slowly dropping and Team Breen brings in 2nd place on the upside down points list.

From League President Tom Schumacher:  Again missed another post time, repeating – again missed another post time.

Heard in the Clubhouse:

Word has it that Mr. Informant was exposed on the course; luckily the beer girl was no where around.  Thanks to Mrs. Informant for that little small bit of information.

Mr. Mike Donlin before his match did a practice round from the forward tees and shooting one under par.  That is awesome.

From the League Rules:

Question came up on order of play when player has no average and order of play when a player is vacant.

o   Article VI.  Team Lineups:  The lineups will be governed by each player’s average.  The lowest average will be player number one (1) and the second lowest will be player number two (2), and so forth.  Players without an average will follow the last player with an average.  If two or more players on a team have the same average or no average because they have not played, the team captain will notify the opposing teams’ captain (before the start of the match) of the order in which the players will play.

o   Exhibit II.  Forfeiture of Points due to No-Show:  Individual teams with less than four players will forfeit individual points for each player absent.  The first thing to do when a player or players are absent is to determine which of the four playing positions is not represented by the player.  If no subs are involved the forfeiture(s) will occur in the position(s) of the regular(s) who are absent.  If subs are present, it must be determined which position they are subbing for.  For example, if a sub with no average is subbing for position number one then his team cannot forfeit this position even though he might (depending upon other factors) be playing in another position.  Once this done, the forfeiture(s) occur in the position not represented by a regular or a sub.  After forfeitures are determined, the playing positions of the players who have position opponents will be determined by their averages.

Question for the Weak:

Got this from my Grandson:

What do you call a Witch at the beach?                                      Answer:  A Sandwitch.

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt.  Place a check mark for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.

IRS Golf League Secretary

Complaint Committee:  Mr. Bill Zachritz, Mr. Z, Mr. Bill Z., Zac, and Mr. Zachritz: My complaint this week is you were sort of quiet, I guess you were processing too many complaints about the forward tees, weather, etc.  Your team needs you to work more on the game and less on the complaints.  Maybe we should change the name of your committee to the Recommendation Committee in Pursuit of Happiness.  If you need we can have Mr. Kiffmeyer help you out.  Thank You for your persistence on all league issues and everything else. And more.  Does anybody but Bill Z read this?  I do believe Mr. Informant reads this. Thanks Chris Kerns for your reading everything written and your wonderful humor.---------------------------------------------________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
