IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 8 – June 15, 2016

Luckily this week we were able to get all the rounds in before the storm moved in. Let’s hope we can do this all season.

This week we had 11 subs:  Steve Ruehl (for Team Bramlage), Dave Vincent (for Team Schumacher), Ken Holloway and Mike Barnett (for Team Flynn), Mike Schwarberg and Bonnie Harrison (for Team Kientz), John Kaufhold (for Team Pfeiffer), Dave Spaeth (for Team Breen), Shari Anderson (for Team Harms), Jeff Barnhorst (for Team Anderson), and Izzy Jewell (for Team Kiffmeyer).

Good rounds this week:  Front 9 – Steve Duddey – 36, Clyde Barnes – 36, Don Potter – 38, Ray Vaughn – 38, Mark Caporale – 39.

Most Under Average (Sandbagger Award):  Congratulations to Mr. Jim Fish shooting a 50 (14 under his average) and Ron Michael shooting 8.2 under his average on the front nine and leading Team Bramlage to a win.

A Division has defending Champs Team Schumacher picking up the pace within the division.  Team Leirey even with a loss moved up to the second spot after Team Flynn suffered a bigger loss.  Team Donlin picked up some points but still brings in the bottom of the division but could be starting their run.

B Division still has Team Halpin in the lead after suffering a big loss. Team Harms and Team Kiffmeyer are still hanging back.  Team Buescher is starting to show some life and may be ready to make a run and saved themselves from the Fork.

C Division has Team Zachritz falling and Team Kientz taking over the lead for division and league.  Team Bramlage came alive this week and looks to be starting their run.  Team Freeman is still falling ever so gradually.

D Division has Team Patmann in the lead but Team Breen with the assistance of Dave Spaeth are closing in on them.  Team Anderson (the Shirts) and Team Pfeiffer both took wins and moved closer in.  This may be a tight race for the Division lead as only 43 points separate the four teams.

Status of the almighty Fork:  Team Anderson – week 5; Team Pfeiffer – week 7.  Week 8 no one added. (Note to League Secretary – don’t ever Fork a team the week before you play them.)

Heard around the clubhouse:

After Clyde Barnes shooting a 36 on the front: “Clyde’s Brazil Olympics consideration is awaiting his drug test results, he must be on steroids or something.”  Can’t mention any names of informants but a big thanks goes to Mr. Kerns for providing this information.

And then more information from the same informant:  Seems there must have been an assassination attempt on the league president (Hope your bloody nose is better Colonel Schu.) Under suspicion is MJL (the possible candidate for 2017 league president) or was it EM (another possible candidate).

I heard this on the practice green and then again a couple of times on the course:  “95% of missed Birdie putts always come up short.”  I had my chance at the 95% but fell in the 5% that hit it too far past the hole.

And then, the League Photographer was going to give me more photos to put on Facebook but somehow lost/misplaced his camera.  (Quite possibly had incriminating photos of missed putts or wayward drives on it and was destroyed.)

The “thank you” I got from Dale Schaber for him getting his first win of the season after seven losses.  It still didn’t make my loss feel any better.

Chuckle for the week:
