IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 7 – May 30, 2018

Lucky day on the course as we dodged the bad weather.  There were some pretty good rounds and lots of Birdies and Pars.  Congratulations to Mark Halpin on his Eagle on #14.  Last league Eagle was June 2016.  Mark’s previous league Eagle was in June of 2014.

Subs this week were:  Greg Arkle (Team Harms), Dave Spaeth (Team Breen), Carol Goldstone (Team Patmann), Don Bazsika (Team Slye), Jeff Witt & Bob Kendrach (Team Halpin), Mike Schwarberg (Team Bramlage), and Kelly Johnson (Team Leirey).

We had one no-show this week.  A sub did not show up and nothing was said of why not there.  Please give your subs yours or my contact number in case something comes up, so we can attempt to replace the sub.

The retirement card/gift card was given to Terry Jolly this past week.   He was so very thankful and wanted to thank everyone in our league.

Division Standings:

Division A has Team Anderson taking the lead but only by a small margin.  (1st to 4th only separated by 72 points.)

Division B has Team Slye barely holding their lead after another big loss (sub no-show).  (69.5 points separate 1st to 4th.)

Division C has Team Schumacher still in the lead and also on the top of the league points list).  (203.5 points separate 1st to 4th.)  Team Pfeiffer is not out of it yet as they had their biggest win of the year.

Division D has Team Freeman jumping to the lead, closely followed by Team Breen and Team Buescher (7 points out).  (48.5 points separate 1st to 4th.)

Status of the Almighty Fork:

Week 7 and no one forked yet as Team Schumacher doesn’t need any motivation.  Team Pfeiffer again saved themselves from the Fork as they came in with their biggest win of the year and could be attempting a big comeback.  However, Team Pfeiffer remains on notice.

Sandbaggers of the Weak: (5.0 greater or less):

Most Improved:

Bob Kendrach shoots a 42 (8.7 under average). (awesome).

Mike Breen shoots a 38 (7.8 under average) (2 birdies in one round, took him all season last year for 2).

Gene Pfeiffer shoots 52 (7.2 under average). (2 weeks in a row finally found his game).

Dave Spaeth shoots a 52 (6.4 under average) (not bad for 87 and one-half).

Frank Leirey shoots 38 (6.4 under average). (awesome)

Eric Fredrickson shoots a 40 (6.2 under average). (about time)

Sherril Swann shoots a 55 (5.8 under average) (tie but still on a winning streak).

Garry Melish shoots a 39 (5.0 under average). (awesome)

Most over Average:

Charlie Halpin shoots a 59 (9.6 over average) (very painful) (may take up another sport).

Erich Kientz shoots a 53 (7.6 over average). (painful)

Pat Buescher shoots a 53 (6.2 over average). (painful)

Dave Gindele shoots a 50 (6.0 over average). (painful)

Heard in the Clubhouse:

Mark Halpin after driving the green on #14 from the white tees and making a 20+ foot putt for Eagle:  I couldn’t have done that from the forward tees.”

Lori Johnson excited about getting her 1st Birdie.  Congratulations and may you get many more.

Weakly Thoughts from Mr. Feldman:

Didn’t get any thoughts this week but I did get words of wisdumb while out on the course.  Thank you Mr. Feldman for watching me play such a painful round and keeping me from pushing the launch button.

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt.  Place a check mark or X for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.

Fine Print:  Recommendation from League Secretary:  When someone had a horrible round, don’t rub it in on them.  All the loser does is lose respect for that butt of a person.  Thought for this is the winner of the match is sometimes a loser person.  Don’t ever piss off the person holding the launch button.
