IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 06 – May 31, 2023

Position round one complete and only a few changes to the standings.  Seems Team Vaughn is on a winning streak with no losses so far.  On the other side of the spectrum is Team Zachritz with no wins.

Several issues this week as it was noted that there was a late start at the starting tee box, some three hour rounds, and taking a correct drop on lost balls.   Several League Rules on these issues:

In situation where a player is not at the starting tee at scheduled time:

Article IX.  Missing Tee Off Times:  A player must be on the tee ready to play at the scheduled starting time or a forfeiture is declared.  If there is a back up at the tee and starting times are delayed, there is no forfeiture if the player is ready to play at the delayed starting time.  In all situation’s players must follow the instructions of the starter.  If the player misses the scheduled starting time, but joins the group on the course, the tardy player forfeits nine medal points and match points for hole(s) not played.  The team forfeits four (4) team medal points.  The tardy player will continue to play for match points for the remaining holes.  If any holes were handicap holes these handicap strokes will be forfeited.  The total handicap strokes for the nine would also be reduced.

To help prevent slow play it should be noted to limit the amount of time looking for lost balls and to play ready golf and limit socializing on the course as there is plenty of time to socialize in the clubhouse after play.  Also, Article XVI Pickup Rule covers the double par plus one to help speedup play and improve play.

For lost balls and other situations where a ball is unplayable there are several rules covering various situations.  Article XXIII Unplayable Lie, Article XXIV Penalty Stroke Situations, and Article XXV Putting Recommendations and Penalties.  It is best to always check with your opponent on where to drop your ball.  Any issues/disputes should be addressed immediately to the Rules Committee.

Status of the Almighty Fork:  Its official that as of May 31, Defending League Champs, Team Zachritz, is Forked.   The league trophy from last year has been taken away from them.  (side note: not only can they not golf, they cannot handle their beer.  Recommend they take up knitting.)

Confusing statistics:  It happened again as only 50% of the teams this week won their match.

This past week we had 11 subs playing:

Restricted subs:  Tom Berns (Team Vaughn), Dave Martin (Team Flynn), and Ken Kostas (Team Kiffmeyer);

Subs: Mike Ruff (Team Kientz), Brian Kelly (Team Anderson), Tye Vonallmen (Team Buescher), Marcus Meiner (Team Bramlage), Joe Bramlage (Team Bramlage), Frank Leirey (Team Bramlage), Matt Johnson (Team Bachmann), and new sub Eduardo Vargas (Team Snowden).  Thanks for being there.

Skins/Greenies/Long Putt 2nd half payment will be due on June 21 for the 2nd half of regular season play (this would be for games on June 28 through August 23.   This will also be open to regulars wishing to enter the games (all games is $45.00, or Skins $27, Greenies $9.00, Long Putt $9.00).  Payment for games it to Charles Halpin either check or cash.

Team Snowden played versus the Vacant Team 12 this week.  Being position round they scored vs 2nd place team in Division D.  For those teams playing versus vacant Team 12 see League Secretary to pull a team number out of the hat.  Note: The 3 possibilities are Team 4, 8, or 16.
