IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 6 – May 23, 2018

I’ll start this out with a heads up to keep your vehicles locked and any valuables out of site.  Seems Mike Breen forgot to lock his car and his clubs were stolen.  Second time this has happened this year.  Cincinnati’s best were able to locate his clubs at Play it Again Sports on Red Bank Road.  Thief should be easy to catch.  Another big thanks to Cincinnati PD.

Got hell for no delays due to the road work on I 275.  Barrels are out, and sign shows lane closures day and nightly.  Think they will surprise us when we least expect it or when Coney opens or there are concerts.  So plan to head out earlier to the course.

Subs this week were:  Mike Schwarberg (Team Kientz), Jim Conrady (Team Anderson), Kelly Johnson (Team Bramlage), Don Potter (Team Leirey), Don Bazsika (Team Slye), Dan Varndell (Team Kiffmeyer), Dave Martin (Team Flynn), Jeff Witt & Matt McRoberts (Team Buescher), and Ray Woods (Team Patmann).  Thanks to all for being there.

Division Standings:

Division A has Team Kientz still in the lead and picking up some points from Team Anderson.  Team Bramlage after a big win moved closer to the division leaders with Team Leirey at the bottom (65.5 points separated 1st to 4th.)

Results of Secretary Predictions:

Prediction:  Team Anderson takes their lead back after a close match.  Defending League Champs Team Bramlage gets stomped by Team Leirey as they shoot to the top of Division.

Results:  Got this division all wrong as results were Just the opposite.  I think they were trying to prove me wrong which they did.

Special note on this:  Jim Bramlage for the 1st time since I think the mountains were formed was not the A Player.

Division B has Team Harms losing their lead to Team Slye.  Team Vaughn took down Team Kiffmeyer (94.5 points separate 1st to 4th).

Results of Secretary Predictions:

Predictions:  Team Harms and Team Slye have a close match with Team Harms holding their position.  Team Kiffmeyer gets their whooping from Team Vaughn but no changes in division position.

Results:  Team Slye put the big hurt on Team Harms and moves to the top, proving me wrong on that one.  Got Team Vaughn correct on giving Team Kiffmeyer a whooping.

Division C has Team Schumacher still in the lead (also at the top of the league points list) after suffering their 1st loss to Team Halpin.  Team Flynn comes in 3rd with Team Pfeiffer still holding the bottom but finally with a sort of win (tied with Team Flynn).

Results of Secretary Predictions:

Predictions:  Team Schumacher finally meets their fate and is stomped severely by Team Halpin.  Team Flynn vs. Team Pfeiffer I predict that Team Pfeiffer finally getting a massive win.

Results:  Pretty much got this one right all the way.  Team Halpin 58 to Team Schumacher 32 (massive enough).  Team Pfeiffer 45 to Team Flynn 45 (that is a massive win for Team Pfeiffer).

Division D has Team Buescher still in 1st place with Team Freeman moving into 2nd place.  Team Breen falls to 3rd with Team Patmann still at the bottom (80.5 points separate 1st to 4th place).

Results of Secretary Predictions:

Predictions:  Team Buescher and Team Breen have a slug fest on the course with Team Breen taking the lead but not by much.  Team Freeman and Team Patmann come close to a tie and no change in position.

Results:  Team Buescher and Team Breen was definitely a slug fest (tied on individual match and medal points, Team medal went to Team Buescher by 2 strokes.)  Team Freeman vs Team Patmann didn’t come close to a tie since Team Freeman gave a whooping to Team Patmann.  I was partially right on no change to Team Patmann position.

In summary:  On my predictions if you put it into a slugging percentage I was definitely hitting better than any current Reds player.

Status of the Almighty Fork:

Week 6 is finally over and Team Schu is on notice of receiving the Fork after suffering their 1st of many losses.  Team Pfeiffer saved themselves this week but one more big loss and the fork may find them.

Sandbaggers of the Weak: (5.0 greater or less):

Most Improved:

Jim Fish shoots a 41 (9.3 under average).

Gene Pfeiffer shoots a 53 (6.6 under average).

Kevin Bachmann shoots a 33 (2 under par) (6.5 under average).  (Impressive)

Sherrill Swann shoots a 55 (6.5 under average).  (on a winning streak)

Most over Average:

Charlie Patmann shoots a 62 (11.4 over average).

Dale Goodwin shoots a 58 (8.1 over average).

Sue Kerrick shoots a 64 (7.3 over average).

Clyde Barnes shoots a 52 (6.6 over average).

Rafael Gonzalez shoots a 54 (6.2 over average).

Bill Clark shoots a 58 (5.6 over average).

Ken Thoerner shoots a 55 (5.4 over average).  (Opposite from last week)

Jeff Witt shoots a 47 (5.3 over average).

Heard in the Clubhouse:

Something about the 4th hole and 3 clubs or was it 3rd hole and 4 clubs on 3 shots.  None in the reservoir.  Didn’t get all the facts.

Mike Breen before his clubs were stolen: So far this year has tied for medal 4 times (with 3 tied matches).  Most ever that I know of.

Weak Thoughts from Mr. Feldman:

Golf is no longer fun.  It is test of patience and distance of club throwing.....

Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'?
Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word?
Why is it that Doctors call what they do 'practice'?
Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?
Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called 'rush hour'?
Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?
Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?
Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?
Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?
If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt.  Place a check mark or X for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.

Newsletter by:

League Secretary Charlie Halpin

Fine Print:  Received more volunteers for secretary.  Mr. Bramlage has volunteered to run a new handicapping system and perform all secretarial duties.  Simple program that all players can input into on the course as they play.  Has music too. Hope he is going to fund all the gizmos for use on the course.  Just hope he can get it through before elections.  Mr. Z you missed several complaints.  Col Schu thinks we should have had last place teeing off 1st same as the PGA tournaments.  I pointed him to the League President and also the complaint committee.  As always I am always open to suggestions/recommendations from future league secretaries only if they are not complaints in my thoughts.  Remember that all complaints/anythings go to the complaint committee whose sole purpose is to not resolve anything.
