Position Round

Position Round 1 is complete and looks like I was right on some of my predictions, close on a couple, and way off on a few.

My predictions:

A Division - Team Schumacher being crushed badly by Team Flynn – I was correct on this one (the odds were in my favor); Team Leirey splitting with Team Donlin – I was wrong on this as Team Leirey crushed Team Donlin (I didn’t know Mike wasn’t going to be there).

B Division – Team Halpin crushing Team Kiffmeyer – I was correct on this but had my doubts when Team Kiff brought in 4 subs; Team Harms barely beating Team Buescher – I was close but Team Harms crushed Team Buescher.

C Division – Team Kientz falling to Team Zachritz – I was correct on this one (again the odds were in my favor); Team Freeman crushing Team Bramlage – way wrong on this, it was the opposite (must have been the fish).

D Division – Team Patmann squeaking out a win vs. Team Breen – I was close but no squeaking, it was more like a crushing, Team Anderson falling to Team Pfeiffer – I was way wrong on this, guess the fork motivated Team Anderson (or lack of their fearless leader and their A player).

With Team Schumacher and Team Kientz both suffering their 1st loss of the season, could it be they came out of the gate too strong and burned themselves out?  One third around the track and we will have to see if they can make it in the long stretch.

Status of the almighty Fork:  Team Anderson – week 5.  On notice Team Buescher & Team Pfeiffer.

This week we had 14 subs:  Ken Holloway (for Team Flynn); Steve Ruehl (for Team Donlin); Larry Oliver, Dave Vincent, Melody Oswalt, and Izzy Jewell (for Team Kiffmeyer); Jeff Witt (for Team Buescher); Bill Holocher and Greg Arkle (for Team Harms); Mike Schwarberg (for Team Kientz); Chet Wiggins (for Team Zachritz); Bonnie Harrison (for Team Freeman); Jeff Barnhorst and Terry Buelow (for Team Anderson).

Good rounds this week:  Front 9 – Ken Holloway – 37, Ray Vaughn – 38, Larry Oliver – 38, Greg Arkle – 39, Bill Holocher – 39, and Jeff Witt - 39; Back 9 – Erich Kientz - 40.

Another reminder about Skins/Greenies/Long Putt, please, please, please, last group in bring in the markers, even if you are not in the games.  Also last groups out could you be courteous enough to put away all the spreadsheets and cash box in the briefcase and put the briefcase behind the office counter.

Course management was not on us about speed of play this week; however I did notice that groups are not in the tee box area ahead of tee time, causing delays in teeing off.  A lot of times we can get off early if everyone is there and not be hunting around the clubhouse for players.

This really happened at the clubhouse:  The bartender had problems tapping a keg and asked Mr. Ed Miller and myself if we could help and if we could fix it we would get a pitcher of beer.  So off we went and Mr. Ed Miller (years ago I supervised him as his manager) supervised me on tapping the keg.  Mr. Ed Miller was in heaven as he supervised me and then drank all the beer.  Sometimes pays to stick around the clubhouse.

For those of you wondering where is Mr. Ed Kiffmeyer.  He is having hip problems and is scheduled for surgery later this month.  Here is wishing him speedy recovery and get well soon, his team really needs him, and we miss him at the clubhouse.

Heard around the clubhouse:  Not for sure how it goes so you will have to ask the person, in person:  Something about Mr. Mike Schwarberg aka Dancing with Dogs.

Then there is Mr. Izzy Jewell and something about boots and taking care of Air Force Bomber Alert Officers.

Chuckle for the week:  Hoping to get some input from Mr. Wis-dumb or the prez. So here is something I found on-line:

The schoolteacher was taking her first golfing lesson.
"Is the word spelt p-u-t  or  p-u-t-t?'' she asked the instructor.
"P-u-t-t is correct,'' he replied.
"Put means to place a thing where you want it. Putt means merely a vain attempt to do the same thing."

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt.  For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names.  $5.00 entry fee for all games ($3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt).  Place a check mark for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.

Candidate Teams for League Secretary 2017: Team Pfeiffer & Team Zachritz.
