IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 4 – May 9, 2018

We were able to dodge most of the rain this week.  One team was unable to finish the last hole on the front nine due to the storm that came in.   Skins/Greenies/Long Putt were paid on all with a credit for long putt to the 3 players that were in the games that didn’t finish #9.  Back nine never heard the horn and they were able to finish.

League President Colonel Schu brought in a cake for birthday boy Eric Fredrickson.  Congratulations to Eric on his 72nd, you don’t look a day over 62.

Another reminder about road work/construction on I-275 from the bridge to Four Mile.  News has it that it will start around mid-May and last until 2020.  There will probably be a lot of delays so watch for when it starts and plan to head out earlier to the course.

Subs this week were:  Mary Jo Leirey (for Team Freeman), Ray Woods (for Team Patmann), Greg Arkle & Shari Anderson (for Team Harms), Jim Conrady (for Team Leirey), and Ken Kostas (for Team Kiffmeyer).  Thanks to all for being there.

We again had two no shows this week.  If in need of a sub and having difficulty finding one please call Secretary Charlie Halpin, as I might have some good sub contacts for short notice.  Also, for anyone having a sub, please let me know who is subbing for who.

Division Standings:

Play between Division A vs. Division B; and Division C vs. Division D is complete.  Next up is Division A vs. Division C; and Division B vs. Division D.

Division A has Team Anderson with a small lead closely followed by Team Kientz and Team Leirey.  Defending League Champs Team Bramlage brings in the bottom.

Division B has Team Harms in the lead and pulling away from Team Kiffmeyer, and Team Slye, with Team Vaughn at the bottom.

Division C has Team Schumacher maintaining their lead (also at the top of the league points list), with Team Halpin and Team Flynn not too far out.  Team Pfeiffer brings in the bottom and is resting on top of the upside-down league points list.

Division D has Team Freeman taking the lead back, closely followed by Team Buescher and Team Breen.  Team Patmann brings in the bottom.

Sandbaggers of the Weak: (5.0 greater or less):

Most Improved:

Sherrill Swann shoots a 51 (10.9 under average).  This is the 3rd week that Sherrill has shot way under her average.  She is hitting the ball very well.

Jim Hill shoots a 47 (6.3 under average).  He did mention to me that he was making up for when I pointed out his painful round a couple of weeks ago.

Rafael Gonzalez after #8 is sitting on a 34 and unable to finish #9 (one of his better rounds and would have been 5+ under average.

Most over Average:

Ron Michael shoots a 61 (12.3 over average).  Although he did win the long putt on #18.

Erich Kientz shoots a 52 (7.1 over average).

Eddie Gregory shoots a 50 (5.7 over average).

Heard in the Clubhouse:

From Steve Ruehl saying he received a call from a telemarketer.  Seems the telemarketer was trying to sell him a coffin.  Steve tells him that is the last thing he needs.  ???

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt. For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt.  Place a check mark or X for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.
