IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week 4 – May 17, 2017

Weather seemed nice, warm and windy, but some of the rounds looked pretty bad.  From my experience it was lack of putting (or is that too much putting).  I had too many 3 putts and worse than that was rimming the cup on #9, then taking 3 more putts to finish.

We had 5 subs this week.  Subs were:  Don Potter (Team Leirey), Cindy Ellsworth (Team Freeman), Jeff Barnhorst (Team Anderson), Dave Spaeth (Team Breen), and new sub Matt McRoberts (Team Buescher).

Welcome back to Bill Clark, he definitely can see better now.  Also visiting was Erich Kientz, getting better but still can’t play.

Division A versus Division B play and Division C versus Division D play has ended with Division D leading in points followed by Division B.  Next up is Division A versus Division C and Division B versus Division D.

Still unbeaten is Team Kientz (4-0).  Top of the Team points is Team Anderson by ˝ point.  Two players have a 4-0 record, Jimmy Smith & Mark Halpin.  Birdie leader is Jay Ackerman with 3.

Position Round is in 2 weeks (May 31) if no rain out.  Divisions were pulled for front & back tee times.  Thanks to MaryJo Leirey and Melody Oswalt for pulling the divisions out of the hat.  Again if no rain out next week tee times for May 31 position round will be:

Front Nine:  3:39 & 3:48 – Division C 1st place vs. 2nd place.

                   3:57 & 4:06 – Division C 3rd place vs. 4th place.

                   4:15 & 4:24 – Division A 1st place vs. 2nd place.

                   4:33 & 4:42 – Division A 3rd place vs. 4th place.

Back Nine:   3:39 & 3:48 – Division D 1st place vs. 2nd place.

                   3:57 & 4:06 – Division D 3rd place vs. 4th place.

                   4:15 & 4:24 – Division B 1st place vs. 2nd place.

                   4:33 & 4:42 – Division B 3rd place vs. 4th place.

Heard on the course:  Ray Vaughn commenting that he was given strokes for the 1st time (3 strokes to be exact).  And Ray won his match by 3 strokes.

Found in the briefcase were some golf balls.  Word has it the Mr. Chris Kerns spent most of his time searching for his balls in the woods and found everyone else’s balls and not his own.  Being an honest man he was hoping to return the balls to whom ever lost them.  These balls can be claimed from the briefcase.  There is a Dunlop Loco, Intech Titanium, Mojo, a very dirty Nike Crush, Maxfli Revolution, Slazenger with money logo, Pinnacle Platinum, Nike Superfar.  All are white balls with no initials or names on them.  To claim your ball just identify color of the ball and manufacturer and the ball will be returned to you.  Unclaimed balls will be returned to the woods.

Good rounds this week were:  front nine – ?? Frank Leirey, Ray Vaughn, Mark Slye, & Mark Halpin – all with 41 ??; Back nine – Jay Ackerman – 39.

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

Most of the regulars and subs in the league know about Skins, Greenies, and Long Putt.  For those that do not, each week there will be a sheet and a box on one of the tables in the clubhouse.  The sheet will have the names of all the regulars and blank lines at the bottom for subs to write in their names. $3.00 entry fee for Skins; $1.00 entry fee for Greenies and $1.00 entry fee for Long Putt.  Place a check mark for each category for which you are participating.  If the Briefcase is not out notate on your scorecard your intent to play and pay when you complete your match.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.
