IRS Wednesday Golf League Newsletter

Week  1 – April 24, 2024

The first week is now completed and we are off to a running (I’VE FALLEN AND CAN’T GET UP) start.  Pre-season seems like we had been hexed with injuries and other health issues.  At one point we had all teams filled, then the S--hit hit the fan.  Team Zachritz lost Andy Proeschel for health issues (out for the season).  Team Halpin lost Rafael Gonzalez and Jimmy Smith for health issues for the remainder of the season, and lost Farlon Smith until somewhere in July due to health issues.  Team Brain Anderson lost Tim Feldman (heart surgery) out for the season.  Then Team Ellsworth lost Tom Nonno to a knee injury and out for the season. Then I was almost lost to the season but will only miss week 1 and 2 (90% clogged carotid artery).  So that leaves us with just 15 teams like last year.  Comment I’ve heard over and over again “IT IS HELL GETTING OLD.”

Looks like we had several no shows.  This puts those teams at a loss and puts the league in jeopardy.  California Golf Course and CRC contract has our league pay $80 for each tee time, and not by individual golfer.  When a golfer is missing the league still has to pay for that open spot.  We have lots of subs willing to play and hopefully they are willing to reimburse who they are playing for.

Thanks to all who helped with league night and getting things started.  Special thanks to Treasurer  Chuck Reckers for picking everything up from my house to get it to the course.  Also, thanks to Dick Warren for dropping everything off at my house after the matches.

Recap sheets seem to need help.  Only a couple recap sheets were correct as all the others had errors on calculating points.  Most of the errors were on which handicap holes for the different tee boxes, and big errors on calculating for no shows.

Big Congratulations go to Kevin Bachmann shooting one under par (34) from the Blue Tees.  What a way to start the year.

Subs playing this week were Mick McMullen (Team Halpin/Scott), Carol Goldstone (Team Zachritz), Don Bazsika (Team Bramlage), Jim Earl (Team Bill Anderson), and Brandon Arkle (Team Harms).

Welcome to new regulars:  Dan Scott, Mike Bell, and Randy Donohue to Team Halpin/Scott; and Asbury Turner to Team Ellsworth.

Skins—Greenies—Long Putt

We have 31 players in the Skins, 37 in the Greenies, and 38 in the Long Putt games.   That works out to $168 available for payout each week.  See the Team Average sheet for those in the games.  Money Games pot will be open to enter for the remainder of the year in week 2 for anyone that missed week 1.  First teams out please take the markers, last teams in please bring markers in.

Thanks to all for the get well card and all the prayers sent my way.  My recovery is going well, and I should be at the course on May 8.
